Agartala, 18th May 2025: Assam police arrested Teliamura-based businessman and fertilizer dealer Prasenjit Roy in connection with a drug-related case. Roy, who also holds the position of secretary at the Saptasindhu Dosh Diganta Club was arrested in a coordinated operation by the Bazaricherra police station in Assam and Teliamura police station this morning in the Shantinagar area of Teliamura.
According to official sources, Roy was taken into custody under sections 22(c)/25/29 of NDPS case number 211/24 registered at Bazaricherra police station in Assam.
While whispers of Roy’s alleged involvement in illicit activities had circulated for years, few dared to publicly raise concerns due to his financial influence and reported clout. “There were always murmurs about his meteoric rise in wealth and power, but nothing concrete ever surfaced,” a local resident, preferring anonymity, remarked.
Investigators are now looking deeper into Roy’s financial trajectory. Multiple sources indicate that he was previously a resident of DM Colony village in the Krishnapur assembly constituency before amassing significant wealth, purchasing land in Shantinagar and constructing a multi-storey residence. His rise to prominence also saw him securing key social positions, reportedly using his financial resources.
The arrest has reignited public discourse on his alleged empire. “This is a shocking revelation. If true, it raises serious concerns about how deep the drug network runs in this region,” a senior police official in anonymity told reporters.
Authorities are expected to probe further into Roy’s financial dealings. Will law enforcement trace the origins of his wealth? And will the administration prioritize a deeper investigation? These questions remain at the forefront as the case unveiled.
