Agartala, 8th March 2025: Tripura’s Leader of the Opposition, Jitendra Chaudhury, has launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP and its ally, Tipra Motha, accusing them of fostering corruption and administrative decay instead of delivering on governance promises.
At a press conference on Saturday, Chaudhury, also the CPIM state committee secretary, criticized the BJP-led government for failing to fulfill its electoral commitments over the past seven years. He highlighted the growing discontent among citizens due to job losses, unfulfilled infrastructure projects, and alleged financial mismanagement at both state and district levels.
“Before coming to power in 2018, BJP made grand promises—50,000 new jobs, 200 days of MGNREGA work, and a daily wage of ₹340. Today, instead of generating employment, more than 50,000 people have lost their livelihoods. They even announced an AIIMS-like hospital for Tripura and a ship service on the Gomati River. Where are these projects? Where is the money?” he questioned.
Chaudhury also took aim at former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s administration, accusing it of misleading the people about contractual jobs and government recruitment policies.
“Biplab Deb assured that contract and part-time jobs would be regularized. Yet, nothing changed. Even when these issues were raised in the Assembly, BJP ministers dodged accountability. Instead of governance, the ruling party has prioritized propaganda and deceit,” he alleged. The CPIM leader further accused the BJP of eroding democratic processes in the state. He claimed that opposition parties had been systematically targeted, elections were marred by irregularities, and certain sections of the police were colluding with ruling party leaders.
“Tripura is witnessing a new form of fascism where political power is secured not through fair elections but through intimidation and manipulation. Ministers and MLAs have been installed undemocratically, and corruption has become the foundation of governance,” Chaudhury asserted.
Extending his criticism to BJP’s ally, Tipra Motha, he alleged that corruption was now rampant in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) as well. “Tipra Motha, which once claimed to be a party for indigenous rights, has now adopted BJP’s corrupt practices. The TTAADC’s recruitment system is filled with irregularities, and local contractors are being sidelined in favor of firms from outside Tripura. Instead of ensuring fair development, those in power are focused on personal enrichment,” he claimed.
With BJP national president JP Nadda scheduled to visit Tripura, Chaudhury demanded answers from the ruling party, urging them to justify their governance record.”People of Tripura deserve accountability, not empty promises and diversion tactics,” he concluded.
