Agartala, 13th March 2025: Members of the Tripura Safai Karmi Sangha, affiliated with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh organized a march through the city today to give deputation to the Agartala Municipal Corporation. Their key demand is the regularization of sanitation workers and equal benefits as government employees.
The procession commenced from Maharanai Tulsibati Girls’ HS School and wound its way through various city streets before the Sangha representatives handed over a charter of demands to Mayor Dipak Majumdar. Speaking on the matter, a leader of the Sangha shared, “On March 7, we resolved to present six demands related to the welfare of workers to the Agartala Municipal Corporation. However, we were informed by the Corporation to submit the deputation after the BJP’s public meeting. Thus, the protest march and deputation were conducted today.”
Highlighting the plight of the workers, he added, “Sanitation workers have been serving tirelessly for the past 25 years, yet they remain unregularized. This is unjust. Our demands include the regularization of these workers and ensuring they receive the same facilities as other government employees.”
