Agartala, 16th March 2025: A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from the Bhola Mora area under Sonamura police station, where a woman and her father were allegedly attacked and tortured by her husband and in-laws.

The victim, Farzana Akhter, daughter of Abdul Hamid from Ward No. 1 of Sonapur Gram Panchayat, was married five years ago to Saiful Islam, son of Lok Habil Mia from Rangamatia, Bhola Mora. The couple had lived happily for the first three years and have two children—a four-month-old and a two-year-old.

However, according to Farzana, her husband Saiful Islam had been engaging in extramarital affairs over the past two years, leading to frequent disputes and even police interventions.

The latest incident occurred when Farzana served cow’s milk to her child in a glass. Later, Saiful Islam drank water from the same glass and, upon detecting the milk’s scent, became furious, sparking a heated argument. The altercation escalated into physical violence, prompting an arbitration meeting at Saiful Islam’s residence attended by local dignitaries and Farzana’s father, Abdul Hamid.

During the meeting, the elders advised Saiful Islam to mend his ways and treat his wife with respect. However, after they left, the situation deteriorated further. Saiful Islam allegedly declared that he would continue his illicit affairs and threatened to send Farzana back to her father’s home. When Farzana sought support from her father-in-law, Lok Habil Mia, he instead sided with his son and verbally abused her. When her father intervened to protect her, he too was attacked.

According to reports, Saiful Islam, along with his father Lok Habil Mia, his mother-in-law, and his brother-in-law, brutally assaulted both Farzana and her father. At one point, Abdul Hamid was tied up and beaten with ropes.

With the help of local residents, Farzana and her father managed to escape and immediately lodged a complaint at Sonamura police station. Acting on the complaint, the police rushed to arrest the accused, but by then, they had fled. The police returned empty-handed but assured the victims that necessary action would be taken to bring the culprits to justice.

Farzana Akhter has now appealed for justice and stringent punishment for the accused. The case has once again highlighted the plight of domestic abuse victims and the need for stronger legal enforcement to protect women from such atrocities.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, and efforts are underway to apprehend the accused individuals.
