An Argentine court has issued arrest warrants for Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo, Argentine lawyer Dario Richarte said.
“After two and a half years of investigation, the court summoned for questioning and issued an arrest warrant and a request for the international arrest of Daniel Ortega, Rosario Murillo and about 12 people responsible for serious human rights violations,” Richarte said on X on Monday.
The lawsuit was filed in August 2022 and includes information about human rights violations allegedly committed since 2018, the Infobae news portal reported.
Later, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry condemned the Argentine court’s decision to issue the arrest warrants for Nicaragua’s leadership.
“Venezuela strongly condemns the illegal actions of the Argentine federal judge against President Daniel Ortega, Vice President Rosario Murillo and the Nicaraguan leadership,” the ministry said, calling the court’s decision political.
These actions are directed against the legitimate and sovereign government of the country, the ministry noted.
In September, Buenos Aires asked the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
