Agartala, 23rd September 2026 : Tensions ran high at the BJP’s Dharmanagar district office on Wednesday following an alleged clash between rival groups within the party, with several persons reportedly sustaining injuries.
Party sources informed that, Munna Pal, Mihir Kanti Deb and Nabarun Nath, who are reportedly associated with Dharmanagar MLA Jahar Chakraborty, were injured during the altercation and subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
Sources said Barnali Goswami, wife of MLA Jahar Chakraborty, was scheduled to campaign for BJP candidates in the Laljuri area of Kanchanpur subdivision in connection with the upcoming ADC Village Council elections. Her vehicle reportedly stopped near the BJP district office before proceeding for the campaign.
The sources alleged that when Munna Pal, Mihir Kanti Deb and Nabarun Nath entered the party office to collect ceremonial uttariyas, a verbal exchange took place between two groups and soon escalated into a physical confrontation.
It was alleged that a group led by Dharmanagar Mandal President Shyamal Nath, along with supporters of former Assembly Speaker Biswabandhu Sen, became involved in the altercation. The three men were allegedly taken into a room inside the party office and assaulted, with chairs and sticks reportedly used during the incident.
After receiving information about the confrontation, MLA Jahar Chakraborty and his wife reportedly reached the district office. According to the allegations, tensions escalated further in their presence, with a fresh scuffle breaking out between the two groups.
The incident has brought renewed attention to reported differences within the Dharmanagar BJP organisation. Although allegations of internal disagreements have surfaced on various issues in the past, the reported confrontation at the party’s district office has caused considerable political discussion in the area.
The allegations regarding the assault and the circumstances leading to the clash could not be independently verified immediately. It was also not immediately clear whether any formal police complaint had been lodged in connection with the incident.
The development comes ahead of the ADC Village Council elections, adding to the political tension in Dharmanagar. Party workers and local political circles are now awaiting the BJP leadership’s response and any administrative or legal action that may follow.
