Agartala, 29th May 2025:  Tensions flared at Khowai this afternoon as a violent clash erupted between two groups over contract work quotations from the Khowai Public Works Department. The incident took place in the Subhash Park Commercial area leaving two individuals injured.

Sources informed that the contractor Ankur Debnath sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Khowai Hospital. Others injured include Subhankar Ghosh and Alab Vishara. Eyewitnesses reported that sticks were used in the assault, and a video surfaced showing miscreants threatening individuals inside the PWD office.

Police personnel present during the scuffle attempted to intervene, but the accused fled the scene. Later, Khowai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Subir Malakar and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer visited the site and recorded statements from the victims. A formal case has been registered against the alleged attackers.

Victims have threatened a major protest if justice is delayed and plan to escalate the matter to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharjee. This clash is the latest in a series of ongoing disputes linked to contractor work in the area, including the abduction of contractor Shyamal Deb two years back, which had drawn state-wide attention.
