Agartala, 2nd March 2025:   Several people including school students were seriously injured in an unexpected honeybee attack in Jamini Tila, Ward No. 3 of Nirbhay Pur Gram Panchayat adjacent to the border under Kathalia block this morning. Two of the injured individuals have been taken to the hospital for treatment. Panic has spread among pedestrians and neighbors in the area.

The incident has made vehicle drivers hesitant to travel on the IBB road, which passes through the Kathalia commercial area to Nirdaypur, due to fear of honeybee attacks. This situation has persisted for the past few days, with increased attacks this morning.

The source of the problem appears to be a large honeybee nest in a tree within the forest, just beyond the barbed wire on the border. According to reports, some hawks attacked the honeybees in the morning, causing hundreds of bees to swarm and sting anyone in their path. The bees even entered houses in Jamini Tila, attacking men, women, and children indiscriminately.

Local resident Chandan Majumdar, one of the victims, said, “It was terrifying. The bees came out of nowhere and started stinging everyone. We couldn’t escape.”

Another resident, Sanjit De, added, “The bees entered our homes, attacking anyone they found. It was chaos.”

Two individuals, Pintu Ghosh and Rajdeep Dev, had to be taken to the hospital for treatment due to the severity of their injuries. This incident has created quite a stir in the area.

Local guardians Adhir Majumdar and Shankar Das expressed their concerns to the newsman, stating, “Look, if the forest department does not remove this honeybee nest immediately, it has become impossible for us to stay in our homes.”
