Malabati Tea Garden, Sekerkote: Panchayat Pradhan accuses to misuse her power

Agartala, 8th July 2024:   A Panchayat Pradhan Dipti Dey has become desperate to fulfill her self-interest by turning her husband into a tea garden worker. It has been learned that many people have been working as laborers at the Malabati Tea Garden located in Sekerkote under Kamalasagar Assembly Constituency for many years but the actual workers of this tea garden did not have any land of their own. These workers needed a small piece of land.

In January last, the Panchayat Pradhan along with the Malabati Tea Garden workers prepared to apply for their land to the District Magistrate of West Tripura through a public meeting.

In the meeting, Sekerkote Gram Panchayat Pradhan Dey herself was present. It was decided in the meeting that only those who are genuine tea workers and have no land or property would be able to apply for land to the District Magistrate. The Gram Pradhan thought it would not be wise to miss this opportunity. Using the opportunity, she included her husband and father’s names in the workers’ resolution to the District Magistrate claiming they were genuine tea garden workers without any land or property.

It has been learned that Dey’s husband Nikhil Das has his own house right next to the tea garden and he owns a shop in front of Tripura University. Although Dipti’s father Dipak Dey was a worker in this Malabati Tea Garden he owns property in Sekerkote and a couple of other areas. Despite this, the Panchayat Pradhan Dey misusing her position and power became desperate to grab tea garden land by presenting her husband and father as landless.

Although Dey is telling people that she doesn’t know how her husband and father’s names were included in the resolution requesting land from the District Magistrate other tea garden workers have revealed that before sending this resolution to the District Magistrate all the names were read out in front of Dey. Even though she is trying to cover up, now everything has become clear to the tea garden workers.

On January 17, after the resolution was submitted to the West District Magistrate’s office on behalf of the workers the administration began the process of providing land to the workers. However, due to this kind of activity by the Panchayat Pradhan a storm of criticism is sweeping through the entire Sekerkote area starting from the Malabati Tea Garden workers.
