Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at Sree Ramaswami Temple, Thriprayar, in this district on Wednesday.
Thriprayar Sree Ramaswamy temple is one of the famous Ram temples in South India.
Modi, who arrived from Guruvayur after offering prayers at Sree Krishna temple, entered the Ram temple dressed in traditional Kerala attire Mundu (dhoti) and Veshti (white shawl). He spent one hour inside the temple.
After offering prayers, he served food to fish in Thriprayar river that flows near the temple, a ritual known as” Meenootu”.
It is believed that the act of feeding is symbolic of offering prayers to Lord Vishnu’s Matsya Avatar’, his first incarnation.
At a specially arranged venue at the temple, a group of 21 students who study veda at Brahmaswom Madom recited vedic hymns and bhajans based on Ramayana.
His visit to the Ram temple assumes significance in the wake of the consecration ceremony at Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22.
On arrival at the nearby school ground helipad, the PM was greeted by thousands of people gathered on both sides of the two km road to the temple.
Thriprayar Sree Ram temple is one of the four temples devoted to Lord Ram and devotees take a pilgrimage to these temples.
After winding up his visit to both Guruvayur and Thriprayar temples, he left for Kochi.
